Ingredients
1/4 cup shea butter
1/4 cup cocoa butter*
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup almond oil
20-25 drops of quality essential oils of your choice*
In a double boiler or saucepan, gently melt all ingredients except for the essential oils over medium low heat. Stir well to ensure all oils are incorporated. Remove the mixture from the heat and allow it to begin to set up. Depending on the temperature of your home, this could take some time. This process can be expedited in the refrigerator, just make sure your heating vessel has cooled down some before refrigerating. Keep an eye on the mixture, once it is starting to turn opaque, it is time to add your essential oils and whip the body butter. Using a stand or hand mixer, whip the mixture until it is fluffy and forms stiff peaks, as the picture shows. Place your finished body butter in a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. This recipe can be stored at room temperature.
*If you enjoy the faint hint of a chocolate scent in your body butter, keep the cocoa butter in. If you would prefer a more unscented base, simply omit the cocoa butter and double the shea butter.
