Pumpkin Pie Spice
Making your own pumpkin pie spice could not be easier and it gives a lovely fall flavor to drinks, smoothies, and autumn treats. It can be difficult to source spice mixtures that are free of anti-caking agents, pesticide residues, and sometimes gluten. Spices are often treated with irradiation, a process that utilizes radiation to kill off bacteria that can change the chemical composition of the spices. To avoid harmful herbs and spices we recommend looking for organic spices that are non-irradiated. Additionally, many of our patients struggle with autoimmune conditions and may react to certain ingredients within premade spice mixtures. If you are abiding by an autoimmune protocol, simply omit the nutmeg.
INGREDIENTS
4 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons ground ginger
4 teaspoons ground nutmeg
3 teaspoons ground cloves
In a small mixing bowl, stir the spices together until well combined. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
