Essential Oils for Intimacy
While sex is not a prominent theme in our content here at Restorative, we feel it is an aspect of health that can be both under-emphasized and over-emphasized in our culture today. A healthy, thriving sex life is crucial for overall health and wellness.
Using essential oils for romance and intimacy dates back to ancient times. Many cultures have upheld herbs and essential oils for many aspects of sexual health including fertility, hormone health, and aphrodisiacs. In fact, the Song of Solomon, references various aromatics and oils between a man and wife in the Bible.
While we all come to intimacy with different backgrounds, it is important to note that there are so many factors that go into healthy sexuality. This article is emphasizing the use of essential oils within an intimate relationship. Factors including emotional health, past sexual trauma, proper hormone function, proper gut function, blood sugar regulation, and many other dynamics all impact sexual physiology. Essential oils intimately interact with the limbic system, the emotional center of the brain, and because of this, can deeply impact how we enter a sexual encounter. We do not believe essential oils will necessarily fix any of these underlying causes for sexual dysfunction, but can accentuate pleasure in a healthy sexual relationship.
