What sort of training has Dr. Kevin received?
Dr. Kevin earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from Penn State University in 2006 which focused on anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and neurology. He then continued his education in these areas at Palmer College of Chiropractic where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 2010. Since graduation, he has attended hundreds of hours of continuing education courses in physiology, nutrition, neurology, and functional medicine practices. He is also working towards his diplomate from the American Board of Clinical Nutrition.
Is Dr. Kevin a medical doctor or Primary Care Physician (PCP)?
No, Dr. Kevin is a chiropractor and functional medicine practitioner working to promote optimal wellness in his patients. The focus of his care is to to get to the root cause of any health challenges a patient may have and support the body’s natural ability to heal itself. He strives to work alongside his patient’s other healthcare providers and would strongly encourage his patients to retain a working relationship with their Primary Care Physician.
How are Dr. Kevin’s methods different than other practitioners?
Typically, doctors tend to focus on symptoms rather than the root cause of those symptoms. Many treatments exist to mask or cover up symptoms but never fix the root cause of the problem and patients may remain on these interventions for the remainder of their lives. A common analogy used to illustrate this point is comparing it to a wilting plant. One can spray paint a leaf to be green again and give the illusion of a healthy plant. At Restorative Chiropractic and Functional Wellness Center we would choose to ask whether or not that plant is getting the nutrients it needs, proper sunlight, adequate water, no toxin exposure, and tender loving care. If these “needs” are being met, one could expect that plant to thrive. A comprehensive history, in-depth lab testing, and examination will allow us to determine the root cause of a patient’s heath challenges so that they will no longer be a “wilting plant”.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. Dr. Kevin does not and is unable to prescribe pharmaceuticals or other controlled substances. He encourages his patients to address these questions with their PCP or prescribing doctor. Instead, he utilizes supplements, herbs, food, other nutritional products, and lifestyle recommendations to facilitate physiological changes. Additionally, he cannot make changes, recommendations on a patient’s current medications.
What can I expect on my first visit?
Prior to your first visit, we ask that you fill out our comprehensive patient intake forms along with a Metabolic Assessment Form, Brain Health Neurotransmitter Assessment Form, food log, and obtain any recent or pertinent lab testing from other physicians. If you are able, we also ask that you provide a BRIEF 1-2 page summary of your health story and concerns. That information can all be submitted via email to info@restorativewellnesscenters.com for review prior to your appointment. We ask that you still bring the hard copy of those documents to your first visit.
At your first visit, Dr. Kevin will spend between 60-90 minutes going through a thorough health history and wellness exam. Based on your history and exam findings, he will likely suggest various laboratory studies to objectively measure health status and identify potential causes of your symptoms/dysfunctions.
Will my insurance cover these services?
In general, these types of services are considered above the standard of care and “elective” as far as health insurance is concerned. Our office does not bill insurance companies. It is the responsibility for each individual to determine whether their plan provides reimbursement for consultations, nutritional supplements, and lab testing. You are personally responsible for understanding your insurance plan’s coverage due to the fact that every plan is different. In our experience, many of your laboratory costs could be covered. However, the office visit and supplements are usually not covered.
Can I use HSA or FSA to pay for services?
Yes! In almost all cases Health Savings Accounts along with Flexible Spending Accounts can be utilized to cover labs, supplements, and functional medicine consultations. Additionally, chiropractic care and low level laser therapy can be paid for this way.
I do not live in your area, can I still be a patient?
Yes, Dr. Kevin currently sees patients all over the country via phone calls or a HIPAA-compliant video portal. We do require a virtual consultation form to be filled out along with the initial paperwork listed above and returned to our office prior to your first visit.
What if I would like to be under your care but cannot afford it?
We strive to keep our costs as reasonable as possible. That being said, functional medicine testing and services are not inexpensive. This is an investment into your health and wellness. We take that very seriously! There are many no-interest financing options that could be available to you. Please check with our office manager if this is a concern. You can anticipate that your initial labs will cost anywhere between $300-$700 depending on the complexity of your case. Dr. Kevin usually will retest labs within three to four months of beginning your wellness plan.
Is Dr. Ashley Turner accepting new patients?
At this time, Dr. Ashley is not accepting new patients. In an effort to keep their family’s priorities straight, Dr. Ashley spends most of her time homeschooling their children. Currently, Dr. Ashley also develops content for Restorative Chiropractic and Functional Wellness Center’s blog and social media as well as additional writing projects on the side.
